• Description: With a family history taking in some French banks, the Paris commune, an Austrian schloss, a treatment for tuberculosis, Esperanto and a dangerously close encounter with a Spanish minister of finance, Judy Weleminsky has some fascinating family tales to tell.

 



About Judy Weleminsky
Judy Weleminsky had a leadership career in the voluntary sector, including as Chief Executive of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations. In retirement, she is an activist supporting Israel, founder of “Pro Israel, Pro Palestinian, Pro Peace” and a citizen scientist reviving her grandfather’s treatment for tuberculosis.

After the talk, there will be an opportunity for Q&A on the talk.

It was a dangerous and overcrowded place with its warren of lanes and criminality; most noted for the Jack the Ripper murders of the late 1880s. Many of the promises of marriage and employment never materialised. Worse still, some of these women arrived in London only to end up on the next boat to South America as part of the white slave trade.
