JGSGB Specialist Talk – Thu 12 Aug 2021 7.30pm – with Dr Toni Griffiths & Ed Horwich – "Hidden Footprints in Jewish Britain"

Our next meeting in the JGSGB Virtual Meeting Programme is a specialist talk on a Jewish historical theme by Zoom.

• Date: Thursday 12 August 2021
• Time: 19:30 London; 14:30 New York; 21:30 Jerusalem; 11:30 San Francisco
• Title: "Hidden Footprints in Jewish Britain"
• Speakers: Dr Toni Griffiths & Ed Horwich
• Description: A talk documenting and celebrating stories of Jewish life in places where the presence is diminishing, small, or already vanished.

Since April 2020, Jewish Small Communities Network (JSCN) and Swansea University have been working with a team of committed volunteers on a joint initiative called Connecting Small Histories, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

In this session, you are invited to join us to learn more about JSCN and the story of Connecting Small Histories, a project born out of the desire to document and celebrate stories of Jewish life in places where the presence is diminishing, small, or already vanished.

Our team will talk about the rich Jewish history of our six research locations: Eastbourne, St Annes, Bradford, Sunderland, Cumbria and Somerset, and we will share some of the incredible stories of the individuals and communities interviewed by our volunteers.

About JSCN Director Ed Horwich, Project Lead for Connecting Small Histories
============================================================================
Raised in the bustling and large Jewish community of Southport, by the time he returned it had diminished to just 8% of its more glorious days. After a career as a photographer, business mentor, EU projects director, and broadcaster, he was sucked into community life, serving on the management and executive of two synagogues. He has been championing Jewish small communities for the greater part of the twenty-first century.

About JSCN Project Officer Dr Toni Griffiths
=============================================
Dr. Toni Griffiths is an Honorary Fellow at the Parkes Institute and Swansea University. She is an interdisciplinary historian, currently researching Jewish history & heritage in England.

After the talk, there will be an opportunity for Q&A on the talk.

The invitation to register is below, but please keep it to yourself!
