Our next meeting on a Sunday in our Virtual Meeting Programme is from the JGSGB South & West London Regional Group (SWL RG) by Zoom.

Here are the details for the SWL RG meeting:

• Date: Sunday 11 April 2021
• Time 14:30 London, 09.30 New York, 16:30 Jerusalem
• Title: The Jews of the West End through one family's lens – 1886–1971
• Speaker: Daniel Morgan-Thomas
• Description: The Lefcovitch family were typical Polish Jewish immigrants in the East End of London – so how did they end up living off Tottenham Court Road in London's West End? This talk explores the family's move across London, the Jewish community of Fitzrovia and Soho at the time and the family's changing fortunes through three generations of life in London.

About Daniel Morgan-Thomas
===========================
Daniel has been a member of the Society since 2008, when he joined at the age of 15! Since then he has been a library volunteer, helped run some of the Society’s workshops and is currently Vice Chair of JGSGB's Council. When not finding dead relatives and building his family tree, Daniel works in the charity sector and is a local councillor and school governor in north-east London. He keeps meaning to give up genealogy as a hobby, if only he didn’t keep finding such interesting relations ...

After the talk, there will be an opportunity for Q&A on the talk.

The invitation to register is below, but please keep it to yourself!

If you have problems joining please email chairman@jgsgb.org.uk, preferably in the 15 minutes before the meeting proper starts. In particular, if you get stuck in a registration loop, you may want to upgrade the version of Zoom on your PC, but please email me and I can help you through this…

New database for Cardiff’s Highfield Road Orthodox Jewish Cemetery

From David Shulman: What better way to start the New Year other than with a brand new database! A newly-created searchable database, hosted by JCR-UK, is now up and running. The database, relating to burials at Cardiff’s Highfield Road Orthodox Jewish Cemetery, covers the period 1852 through July 2020 and contains nearly 1,800 burial records, with some 1,470 headstone images. It can be accessed at: https://www.jewishgen.org/jcr-uk/Cemeteries/Cardiff/Highfield_Road_Cemetery/Cemetery_Menu.htm Search results also include coordinates for each individual grave (accurate to about one metre) together with a link to a Google satellite image of the cemetery showing the location of the grave. The creation of the database is part of a project to digitalise the records of all Jewish cemeteries in South Wales and complements a major project by the Jewish History Association of South Wales to collect reminiscences and artefacts and physical items from the numerous Jewish communities in South Wales (...
