JGSGB Videos - March 2021

We hope you have been enjoying our Zoom events in 2021 and we intend to continue with our virtual meeting programme in the coming months.

Please note that on Sunday March 28 and Sunday 4 April we have decided not to have our regular JGSGB Zoom meetings due to the Pesach (Passover) Jewish festival and also because of the proximity of the Good Friday and Easter Monday bank holidays.

Our next Zoom session will be Tuesday 6 April 2021 at 7.30pm from the Chilterns Regional Group and I will send details nearer the time.

In the meantime, there are a set of videos that you might want to check out - targeted at beginners to Jewish genealogy. Experts may learn a tip or two as well!

From Laurence Harris we have “Tips for Researching Your Jewish Genealogy and Q&A Session”, originally given at Limmud in Dec 2020 at https://youtu.be/J96OvUuZ53I . Daniel Morgan-Thomas and I assist Laurence with the Q&A after the talk.

From Jeanette Rosenberg OBE we have “An Introduction to Jewish Genealogy”, originally given at The Really Useful Family History Show at https://youtu.be/xPLpn3TZnJ8

From myself we have “An Introduction to Jewish Genealogy”, originally given at a Maidenhead Synagogue outreach event at https://youtu.be/802G0zhm_W0

For those of you who didn’t see this live on Zoom last week, Sue Fifer’s excellent “Finding Your Jewish Genealogical Roots: A Session for Beginners is at https://youtu.be/3FYTNZpwG4E

We hope these keep you busy in between the JGSGB Zoom meetings…

My final reminder is to complete the 2021 UK census if you have not done so already regarding your whereabouts on 21 March 2021. I have done mine, but I didn’t quite have the courage to encapsulate my entire family tree in my submission for the benefit of future genealogists. I was tempted to use my full Hebrew name of “Lazer Tuvia ben Pinchas Dovid ben Aryeh Leyb ben Tzvi Hirsch ben Josef min Brest-Litovsk” instead of the less exciting “Leigh Dworkin”. I will have to use the former on my own tombstone instead.

Best wishes and Chag Pesach Sameach!

Leigh Dworkin

Chairman, JGSGB
